Medicaid Cuts mean FMS needs YOUR SUPPORT TODAY!

The safety net is breaking. We can help fix it.

Dear Community,

These days, it is all too common to hear in the news about yet another aspect of our world becoming more difficult. It feels like the safety net around our healthcare system continues to lose strands with every coming day.

Recently, we received news that Governor Polis is in the midst of deciding whether the Medicaid waiver funding that covers music therapy and other expressive therapies will be significantly reduced. State officials are framing this as a technical adjustment to “Movement Therapy” rates, but in practice it would mean steep cuts to the very therapists who step in at the most vulnerable times with care that is effective, approachable, and often genuinely joyous.

If these cuts go through, it will greatly affect families who are currently receiving effective care for a variety of conditions—passing the hardship directly back to the community. For many of these families, music therapy is not an “extra” service; it is the one doorway their child or loved one will actually walk through, the place where regulation, communication, and connection finally start to take root.

Foundation Music School offers an opportunity to step into that gap.

As a nonprofit that serves many families and runs those waivers, we are positioned to help, but we cannot do it alone.

If you are feeling a tug at your heartstrings, or if your heart breaks for families losing access to care, we invite you to stand with us. Even if these are not your own stories, this is a moment where our community can show that we care for the stories of our neighbors and want to do something about it.

Here is how you can help right now:

Support us on Colorado Gives Day: Your contribution allows Foundation Music School to fill in these funding gaps and make up for the shortcomings that are coming next year. [Link to Colorado Gives Day Page]

Sign our Letter of Support: Join us in advocating for these families by signing our letter in support of expressive therapies, developed in alignment with the Colorado Music Therapy Legislative Task Force’s efforts at the state level. Your signature strengthens both our local work and the broader push to protect these services. [Link to Sign-on Letter]

Please, for the well-being of our families, consider supporting us or signing our letter to protect these crucial services.

Every little bit contributes to our mission.

With gratitude,

Stephen Brackett
