WORLD OF KEYBOARD (5 - 8 years old) (pre-requisite:
Music Makers and at least 5 years old or teacher recommendation) is
a small group program specially designed for our younger beginners. This
3-year curriculum utilizes an aural and visual approach to learning the
piano and introduces children to new musical concepts through the context
of world cultures including the British Isles, Germany, Amerindian and
African American cultures. Each 60-minute class ends with a 10-minute
family sharing time and includes playing piano, singing, dancing, drumming,
ensemble playing, reading and writing music. Musical skills, including:
composing, improvising, transposing, rhythm, harmonizing, dictation and
performing are part of every lesson. At the end of this 3-year curriculum
children are ready for Private Piano Lessons. (Class duration:
75 minutes/ Contact us for fee schedule and required materials.)
MUSIC MAKERS AT THE KEYBOARD (6 1/2 - 9
years old) is a 2-year small group program
for beginners that teaches children piano from a total musicianship approach
to playing. Music Makers at the Keyboard uses the same aural and
visual approach to learning the piano as World of Keyboard but without
the context of world cultures. In addition, private lessons are offered
once a month in place of the small group lessons to address individual
student needs. At the end of this 2-year curriculum children are
ready for Private Piano Lessons. (Class duration: 75 minutes/
Contact us for policies, fee schedule and required materials.)
PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS (8+ years old): (pre-requisite:
World of Keyboard, Music Makers At The Keyboard or teacher recommendation)
In private piano lessons, piano skills are sharpened and developed on an
individual basis. Materials used are selected based on the students
needs and musical interests to continue developing a well rounded musician.
Group lessons are offered once a month in place of private lessons to offer
students the chance to work on ensemble playing, provide opportunities
for informal piano performing and to work on theory concepts. Performance
opportunities are offered multiple times throughout the year. (Contact
us for policies & fee schedule.)
Full and partial scholarships are
available for all programs based on financial need. Please inquire.
